Sega and The Creative Assembly today announced Caesar in Gaul, the first campaign expansion for strategy game Total War: Rome II, which focuses on Caesar's Gallic War.

　　Four factions are available in Caesar in Gaul, including the Gallic Arverni, the Germanic Suebi, the Belgic Nervii, and Rome. Sega explained that the campaign itself is inspired by Julius Caesar's writings in Commentarii de bello Gallico (Commentaries on the Gallic war).

　　Total War: Rome II has added numerous free DLC packs since launch in September, but the Caesar in Gaul expansion won't be given away. Players can purchase the expansion starting on December 12 for 14.99/£9.99/€14.99.

　　Caesar in Gaul introduces a new campaign map of Gaul and southern Britannia, featuring 18 provinces to conquer, settlements, capitals, and new environmental effects. Gamers will be able to play through the entire campaign with characters like Caesar (Rome) and Vercingetorix (Gaul).

　　Because the campaign timespan is shorter than others (58-51BC), every in-game year is divided into more turns, Sega said. What's more, as the calendar changes, so will seasons, thereby introducing new season-based gameplay effects and other visual alterations.

　　The Caesar in Gaul expansion also aims to tighten up the experience, with two-player campaigns becoming "more focused and less time-consuming" than the full Total War: Rome II campaign.

　　Lastly, the new content introduces a new historical battle (The Battle of Alesia), as well as new units for the Boii, the Galatians, the Nervii, and the Gallic tribes, as well as fresh auxiliary and mercenary units.
