SquareSoft has announced that its PlayStation 2 role-playing game Final Fantasy X has sold through about 1.92 million copies as of July 24 in Japan. Of the 2.14 million units shipped, approximately 70 percent were sold in the first day, and a total of about 90 percent have been sold in the four days since launch. According to SquareSoft, the general rate of units sold is approximately equal to that of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, which were both released on the PlayStation. Square has reached an agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment to produce more units than previously expected for its next shipment of Final Fantasy X.
FFX will be released in North America in early 2002.
