The full trailer for Fear Street Part 2: 1978 has been released. The second part of the three-film adaptation of RL Stein's young adult horror series arrives on Netflix this Friday, July 9.
The promo starts with the main characters from last week's Part 1: 1994 being told that to solve the mysterious curse afflicting the town of Shadyside they have to find out what happened many years earlier, in 1978. The new movie has the traditional horror movie setting of a summer camp--Camp Nightwing--and yet more bloody mayhem quickly ensues, with a bag-headed killer picking off the kids. The first movie was hugely entertaining mix of scares, laughs, and knowing homage, and this looks like another gory blast of teen horror fun. Check the trailer out below:

The cast of Fear Street Part 2: 1978 includes Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Kiana Madeira (Trinkets), Olivia Scott Welch (Panic), and Ryan Simpkins (A Single Man). It will be followed by Fear Street Part 3: 1666 on July 16. All three movies are directed by Leigh Janiak.
In an interview with the New York Times, Janiak described the three-film approach as a "hybrid" between film and TV. "It's kind of a new thing," he said. "It's a mix between a traditional movie and what would be considered traditional TV. Each instalment, each part, tells its own story but it's also very connected to the next piece. That is a very exciting thing for me as a filmmaker."
The first Fear Street book, The New Girl, was published in 1989. It was followed by 50 follow-up novels, plus several spin-off series. It stands as one of the best selling young adult book series of all time. For more, find out what's new on Netflix this month.
