Fallout: New Vegas devs could work on Wasteland 2
Fallout: New Vegas devs could work on Wasteland 2-January 2024
Jan 14, 2025 6:46 PM

The ties between Wasteland 2 and the Fallout franchise are growing tighter, as Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment has agreed to work on the postapocalyptic role-playing game sequel if its Kickstarter total tops $2.1 million. With 17 days left in the campaign, the Kickstarter project has already gathered $1.65 million from 33,000 backers.

The original Wasteland laid the foundation on which Fallout was built. Should the funding level be met, Obsidian will collaborate on Wasteland 2's game design and writing. It would not be the first time the Inxile and Obsidian developers had worked together. Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart, Tim Cain, and Chris Avellone are all veterans of the original Fallout games that were made for Interplay, which was formed by Inxile founder Brian Fargo.

News of Obsidian getting involved in crowdfunding is not completely unexpected, as last month Avellone expressed an interest in working on Kickstarter projects in its forums.

The Inxile agreement caps off an eventful month for Obsidian. Two weeks ago, the developer laid off 20 to 30 employees after an unannounced next-generation game at the studio was canceled. Obsidian currently has two games on its slate of announced projects: South Park: The Game and a game based on Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time novels.
