Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have unveiled Fable Legends for the Xbox One.
The game will take place in an "online world" and feature integration with SmartGlass. Fable Legends is a four-player co-op adventure, with players able to tackle the game solo with three A.I. companions if they choose. Four characters have been shown so far, including a mage who freezes enemies in place and an archer, though Lionhead promises that many more heroes will be in the final game.
Additionally, a fifth player can take the role of a villain, acting as a dungeon master who can set traps, place monsters, trigger ambushes, and target which hero to attack. The villain views Fable Legends from a top-down perspective and can play the game from a SmartGlass tablet, Lionhead adds.
Between missions--which are currently designed to take around 30 minutes to finish, says Lionhead--players will return to the town of Brightlodge, which serves as the game's main hub. Fable Legends is set 400 years before the original Fable, during the series' Age of Heroes.
No release date was mentioned, but game director David Eckelberry says Fable Legends is being made with Unreal Engine 4 and will take "a great deal of time to build."
Microsoft executives Phil Harrison and Phil Spencer unveiled the game as part of an Xbox Showcase at Gamescom 2013.
A CGI trailer for the game was unveiled, showing the various heroes of Albion fighting monsters.
