Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham are back to team up with a new group of mercenaries in the Expendables 4. And unlike the previous movie in the action series, this one will be rated R.
In fact, Lionsgate is really hammering home that Expendables 4 will be full of blood and guts. The red band trailer--seen below--for the upcoming action flick shows Statham slicing open up a guy's neck with a knife, a dude's head exploding after hitting a metal pole, and more explosions than you can count on one hand.
The new Expendables 4 trailer also introduces the newcomers to the franchise, such as Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and even Andy Gracia. Along with Stallone and Statham, returning players include Dolph Lungren and Randy Couture, who are known as Gunner Jenson and Toll Road in the franchise, respectively.
In addition, Lionsgate released 11 character posters for Expendables 4, which it's referring to as Expend4bles. Check them out below:

The Expendables 4 was initially announced back in 2015, with a planned 2017 release date. This came after Expendables 3 disappointed at the box office, with Stallone acknowledging making that flick PG-13 was a mistake.
However, when 2017 did come around, Stallone reportedly sounded like he was finished with the Expendables franchise. That clearly wasn't the case, as the fourth film started production in the fall of 2021.
Need for Speed director Scott Waugh is helming Expendables 4, which will premiere in theaters September 22.
