Euphoria's Hunter Schafer Reacts To Fans Casting Her As Zelda In Nintendo's Live-Action Movie-January 2024

In response to Nintendo's recent announcement of a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, Euphoria's Hunter Schafer has embraced the fan-casting fervor surrounding the idea of her potential role as the titular princess. The actress, a popular choice among fans, has been linked--sorry--to the role since last year.

"That would be so cool. I love the game, personally,” Schafer told Variety. "I played it as a kid, and I still play it now."

Schafer was previously on record as a fan of the series, telling Entertainment Tonight in 2022 that she "played that video game a bunch when I was a kid, that's such a good game" and playing Zelda would "be cool, like an elf."

The live-action Legend of Zelda film, a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony for co-financing and distribution, is set to be directed by Wes Ball and written by Derek Connolly. IGN reports that Nintendo game developer Shigeru Miyamoto expressed his long-term involvement in the film's development. Schafer, however, is not officially cast, though social media continues speculation regarding her as the ideal choice for the role.

The studio has not disclosed details about the film's cast, plot, or expected release year. Even with the SAG-AFTRA strike reaching a tentative agreement and a possible end soon in sight, additional information about the project may take some time to surface. The latest entry in The Legend of Zelda game series, Tears of the Kingdom, received critical acclaim upon its release earlier this year. GameSpot's review hailed it as "a triumph of open-ended game design that pays homage to the best parts of the Zelda franchise's storied history."

As fans await casting news, Schafer is set to make her big-screen debut in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, opening in theaters November 17.
