EU LCS preview SUPER week 8
EU LCS preview SUPER week 8-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 1:13 PM

This article was originally published on GameSpot's sister site onGamers.com, which was dedicated to esports coverage.

It's super week time in the LCS, so time to have a look at what we can expect this week over on the European side. Last week we could find the Copenhagen Wolves and SK Gaming as the most succesful teams that week, resulting in the Copenhagen Wolves sharing 4th place with Fnatic and Supa Hot Crew. SK Gaming managed to secure the 3rd place, where they're just behind Team ROCCAT and Gambit Gaming. SK Gaming however has played one game more than the numbers one and two.

Standings after week 7The further we go into the season, the harder it will be for the bottom teams to catch up. Each team will play 4 games which means a lot can still change as the top and bottom teams have a difference of 5 wins. A lot can happen, but it has to happen this week.

Teams to watch:

SK Gaming:

SK's stats compared to the LCS averageTrevor "Quickshot" Henry mentioned them as the strongest team in the LCS at the time, being week seven. They have been performing extremely well and their 2-0 score last week is proof of that. They have won 7 out of their last 10 games and with an amazing 21,2 KDA ratio they were the best performing team of last week. 2nd in place for KDA, to give you an idea, are the Copenhagen Wolves with 5,41. SK has everything at hand to take on the top teams in the LCS and claim that number 1 place.

  Copenhagen Wolves:

The Wolves have been on a rise the last 2 weeks winning all four of their games, mostly thanks to the amazing play of Amazing. Their overall team performance is also something to be proud of. Even when one is playing a bit sub-par, the rest of the team will pick it up, which shines through in team fights and objective control.

  Fnatic:

Last up in the list is Fnatic. "Are they back?" That's the question we all ask ourselves as they last week turned around their 8! game lose streak against the team that started it all; Gambit Gaming. One would say that it's not a spectacular thing to do. Which is true, but in this case, Fnatic managed to win from Gambit Gaming without dying once. They didn't drop a single time AND they won with a double AP composition.

Players to watch:

Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider:

Everyone knows Amazing by now. He has been performing extremely well in the last 2 weeks, assisting in the Copenhagen Wolves' four victories. Riot Games has chosen him as MVP of week seven and of week six. His total kill participation score (81.2) puts him at the top of the LCS and his team can only benefit from his plays. Besides being an excellent player, he also possesses tremendous vision for gameplay and knows where he has to be at the exact moment when it's needed. Definitely one to watch this week.

  Henrik "Froggen" Hansen:

Froggen's team might be in the 7th position this LCS, he is still on par with the rest of the mid laners. His performance last week in the game against Fnatic was phenomenal. His Karthus (7-5-12) plays earned him a ban in the next game against SK Gaming.

  Adrian "Candypanda" Wübbelmann:

This man holds the KDA ratio in his team, 0.3 points over Jesse "Jesiz" Le. Maybe not so spectacular in itself were it not that it sky rocketed last week with his 22 KDA performance. Feared for his Vayne mechanics, he can turn around almost every situation. Last week, he managed to turn around a potential first blood play on him towards the enemy team, resulting in Migxa's demise.

Top game to watch:

Fnatic vs SK Gaming, "El classico":

A lot of the "El classico" power has been lost, but I feel that this, being Fnatic's and SK's last game of the super week, will be a thriller of a game. Fnatic has so much to prove this week and SK have set their eyes on the top position in the LCS. Looking at the match-up, we have Rekkles versus Candypanda. Both are tied in top "gold per minute" but Rekkles is still standing strong at the top of the KDA ratio. It'll be up to old teammates Bora "Yelowstar" Kim and Christoph "nrated" Seitz to help tip the balance in their favor. Besides this match-up, both teams will do anything to land a win. And eventhough the playstyle of the new SK differs from the old one, it'll still be a top game to watch.

Red=Rekkles; Blue=Candypada; Orange=LCS averageLet us know in the comments what you're looking forward to the most, who you think will make the biggest plays and what'll be the most interesting game to watch.
