Stephen Streater, one of the original founders of UK-based Eidos, announced his resignation as company director Thursday morning. When he founded the company in 1990, Streater originally planned for Eidos to be a video-compression technology company. Obviously, that wasn't the case, as Eidos evolved into one of the largest PC and console game publishers in the industry.
"Video compression has remained the principal focus of his work, and he now feels he can best continue this within a dedicated new start-up venture,'' commented Eidos CEO Charles Cornwall. Streater's yet-unnamed company will focus on his original dream: video-compression technologies.
Eidos has yet to name a new company director.
