Although Electronic Arts has been the staunchest third-party supporter of the PlayStation 2 to date, the company has decided to hold off on the development of the 2001 versions of its college sports franchises for Sony's next-generation console. However, the company has already begun early development on the 2002 versions of its top two college franchises, NCAA Football and NCAA March Madness, and both games will be released next year for the PlayStation 2 console. With the Madden 2001 and NBA Live 2001 engines in place, the developers will be using a slightly modified version of the "pro" engines to create the college sports games, as was the case with the PlayStation versions of the games.
With their release currently planned for the latter half of 2001, specific details are scarce at this time. GameSpot will continue to follow the development of Electronic Arts' college football and basketball franchises and will bring you further information as it becomes available.
