It has been a big day for Tekken fans, as Namco Bandai has unveiled three new installments in its flagship fighting franchise. Nintendo's conference carried word of new Tekken games for the Wii U and 3DS, while Namco Bandai independently announced another King of the Iron Fist offering for the PlayStation 3.
Tekken Wii Successor will let players deface their favorite faces. Tentatively titled Tekken Wii Successor, the Wii U game will include character customization features, like using the new controller's touch screen to doodle on Jin's face. While that game featured a fairly current roster (including Tekken 6 protagonist Lars), the brief glimpse of Tekken 3D for the 3DS was decidedly old school in flavor, with Kazuya and Heihachi settling their family feud in Tekken 2-era costumes. No release dates were announced for those projects.
However, Namco did pin down a November launch window for Tekken Hybrid on the PlayStation 3. The full contents of the Hybrid bundle have yet to be announced, but it will start with an HD remake of Tekken Tag Tournament and a completely CG feature film called Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D. Besides the HD visuals, Namco offered no word on what improvements might be made to Tekken Tag Tournament, but it did specify that the original game's Tekken Bowl mode would also be included in Tekken Hybrid.
The original home version of Tekken Tag Tournament was a PlayStation 2 launch title in 2000, and there's an arcade sequel in development for release later this year. Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D will also be available as a stand-alone DVD and tells the story of Ling Xiaoyu as she infiltrates an international school at the behest of the G Corporation in order to gather information about another student, Shin Kamiya.
