E3 2011: ESA considering moving E3 - Report-October 2024
Oct 24, 2024 10:18 AM

LOS ANGELES--The Entertainment Software Association today announced that the Electronic Entertainment Expo would be returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center June 5-7, 2012. However, the show's location in 2013 and beyond may be up in the air.

E3 could be on the move again. According to a Los Angeles Times report, city officials and the ESA have begun negotiations to keep E3 in Los Angeles on a longer-term basis. The paper reports that the current contract between the two is set to expire after next year's trade show.

ESA representatives told the paper they would prefer to keep the show in Los Angeles, but they have considered other possible locations for the show. The Times reported that the ESA has concerns about AEG Inc.'s proposed construction of a new football stadium where the LACC West Hall currently resides. While there are plans to build a replacement hall, the trade group doesn't want attendees to have to deal with the hassle of an under-construction LACC during the show.

"We're engaged in positive and constructive dialogue with the LACC, AEG, and other stakeholders to ensure that E3 remains the leading global video game event and maintain the outstanding experience that our attendees expect and deserve," ESA senior VP of communications Rich Taylor told GameSpot. "We look forward to returning to LA next June."

If the ESA does move the show, it would not be the first time. Los Angeles has hosted most E3s in the show's 17-year history, but there were years in nearby Santa Monica and not-so-nearby Atlanta, Georgia.
