E3 2002: Highland Warriors preshow report-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 5:52 AM

Data Becker will be showing off a beta build of Highland Warriors, its upcoming real-time strategy game, at this year's E3. The game, which was first unveiled in March at the 2002 Game Developers Conference, will let you assume control of one of four warring factions in medieval Scotland. Each of the four clans will have a unique single-player campaign based on actual events from Scottish history. You'll have access to a wide variety of units and structures, and the game's economic model is based on five basic resources: wood, food, ore, gold, and stone. In addition, the game will include a map editor that allows you to create your own game content, as well as a multiplayer mode that supports up to eight players over an Internet connection. The game is built on Data Becker's advanced Atlas 3D graphics engine, which can display up to 200,000 polygons simultaneously and supports real-time shadows and seamless texture mapping.

Data Becker plans to show off the English and the MacDonald and Cameron clans at E3. The company will also be demonstrating the game's artificial intelligence system, weather effects, zooming camera controls, and landscape engine. The developers will demonstrate the game's realistic ambient animation, including an active windmill and millstone, dynamic shadows that change with the movement of the sun, and lifelike character movements.

Highland Warriors is scheduled for release this fall. We'll post more information about the game as it becomes available.
