Today, Interactive Visual Systems Corp. (IVS) - the company that operates the Dial-up Wide Area Network Game Operation (DWANGO) PC multiplayer gaming service - announced that it is becoming a founding member of Intel's recently announced Open Arcade Architecture Forum (OAAF).
DWANGO's role will most likely be in providing network-based PC arcade and location-based attractions. The OAAF currently includes over 60 member companies within the gaming and PC industries.
In a statement today, DWANGO founder and IVS President and CEO Robert E. Huntley said, "DWANGO is very proud to be associated with Intel and the Open Arcade Architecture Forum. DWANGO is uniquely qualified to network the arcade machine because of our high speed and consistent performance."
"We welcome the opportunity to work with DWANGO and other leaders in the electronic gaming community," said Albert Teng, the director of Arcade/LBE Market Development at Intel. "DWANGO will play a vital role in the OAAF's mission in promoting the development of networked arcade systems based on the Pentium II processor."
Intel's OAAF was formed to produce arcade and location based games based on its Pentium II technology. Eventually games created to run in arcades will be able to be ported for play on PCs at home.
