DreamLeague Fantasy Dota Insight - Week 1
DreamLeague Fantasy Dota Insight - Week 1-December 2024
Dec 27, 2024 2:22 AM

This article was originally published on GameSpot's sister site onGamers.com, which was dedicated to esports coverage.

Each week I will give you a breakdown of the overall performance of the highest earning core/support players in the DreamLeague and give you tips/recommendations on who to pick up for the next week of DreamLeague Fantasy Dota matches.

SPOILER WARNING: This post will contain match results from this week's DreamLeague action.

DreamLeague Week 1 Summary

Week 1 - Team Results

Alliance comes out at the top of week one in terms of actual team results with a total of three wins in three matches. As a result four of the five members of the team are in this week's top 10 overall earners however they were unable to top the chart due to the fact that Fnatic played a total of four matches who only won two of those.

Week 1 - Top 10 Earners Overall

The first thing that will stand out to you is that there is only one support player in the overall top 10, I expect this happen on most weeks due to how the default scoring works however you will notice that EGM is in the list at 6th this is due to the fact that Alliance won all of their three matches however it's also due to the fact that EGM played a Doom carry against Team Doggy which propelled his score above all over the other support players.

Another feat to note is that Fnatic hold the top three positions even though they only won two of their four matches, the extra matches were close enough to carry them to the top of the table.

Week 1 - Top 10 Core Players

Removing EGM from the list would push Cloud 9's SingSing up to 10th who only played one game in the DreamLeague this week. The majority of the cores on this list are the hard carries and mid players of the respective teams. Only a handful of offlaners were able to make this list such as Trixi and AdmiralBulldog.

If this trend continues it would be wise to prioritise your hard carries over any other core players with the exception of a couple of mid players such as Dendi and SingSing.

Week 1 - Top 10 Support Players

Under the default league settings support players are heavily punished and will struggle to come any where near the score of your core players. If we remove the fact that EGM played a carry Doom this would have most likely ended with N0tail on top which once again suggests that the extra games played is having a large impact on your weekly outcome.

Week 1 Spotlight - Puppey vs KuroKy

Each week I will pick two players from the same position and team and analysis their performance to give you an idea and breakdown in how they scored and where the differences came from.

Taking a closer look at the score breakdown between Puppey and KuroKy to see what Puppey did differently this week to improve his position over Kuroky we can see that the majority of the scores are extremely close. The week ended on 8/5/29 for Puppey and 6/5/23 for KuroKy in terms of kills/deaths/assists which provide Puppey a total of 5.3 points versus KuroKy's 3.8.

The difference in terms of last hits is very minimal, a total of 0.1 between the two matches which is to expected from a position 4/5 player. The default league settings don't provide any points for denies so that is 0.0 across the board. This stat should be pretty much ignored when you're looking for a support player.

The GPM and XPM is also another area where your supports can see a large difference depending on if you have someone who plays a lot of jungle heroes or roaming heroes. With the jungler obviously providing a higher overall GPM/XPM than a roaming support (For example 2.1 points on Puppey's Jungle Enigma vs 1.1 on KuroKy's roaming Earthshaker in the Fnatic game).

The next area would be the "stun duration", the difference here is very minimal with the points only coming from the Enigma and Earthshaker game. Both players ended with only a difference of 0.1.

In terms of "healing done" the standard Mekanism pickup on Puppey only provided an average of 1 point over the two games however KuroKy's Dazzle game boosted his score by 4.6 over a ~30 minute game, this brought KuroKy right back in it in terms of overall score so the healing done can have to potential for a large impact on your supports depending on how much they are playing a hero with a dedicated healing ability.

The tower last hit tracker is a nice bonus stat for your support players however each tower is worth 1 point so it can help make the difference with Puppey picking up an extra 2 points over KuroKy in this category.

Neither player secure a last hit on Roshan so both are 0 in this category.

Week 2 - Total Matches Breakdown

As witnessed in the first week of the DreamLeague we saw the total matches played having a large impact on the overall results. You should prioritise picking up players from these teams and playing them this week to maximise your potential score.

A quick look at the total match breakdown will give you an order in which you need to prioritise on acquiring, the Team Empire players would be your hottest pick up this week with them being the only team this week to play three matches. Any one with Team Doggy or Meet Your Makers players should drop them for this week and pick up players from the other teams instead.

Week 2 - The Hottest Cores

With Team Empire's recent results showing a lot of promise I would 100% focus on acquiring their core players.

Fnatic play a total of two matches, one against Team Liquid and another against Virtus.pro both of which should go Fnatic's favour, hard carry Era is priority here over H4nn1.

Na'Vi play a total of two matches and will play against RoX.KIS and Team Empire both of which will be hard matches, prioritise Dendi over XBOCT.

Evil Geniuses will play their first two matches in the DreamLeague, their match against Sigma.int should go in their favour however the match against Cloud 9 will be tough (Players may also be fatigued due to returning from the Monster Invitational LAN event), prioritise Arteezy over Fear.

Team Liquid will face off against Fnatic and Alliance both will be extremely tough games, I'd prioritise TC over Bulba.

Week 2 - The Sexiest Supports

Staying with the same trend as the core players I'd prioritise the Team Empire players over any one else.

Week 2 - Bruno's Hot Tip

"Even average players can score lots of points by if they play many games in a week. Empire plays 3 so they're hot this week! Sigma, Na'vi, Fnatic, Liquid and VP play 2, EG, Alliance, Rox.KIS and C9 play 1. Get rid of your non-core MYM and Dog players this week, since they won't net you any points!"

  Good luck!
