Dirk the Daring, the star of the successful 1983 coin-op Dragon's Lair, will soon be on the receiving end of a 3D makeover thanks to developer Dragonstone Software. The new game will stay true to the design and storyline of the arcade original while at the same time offering an entirely new 3D gameplay experience to Dragon's Lair fans.

　　The story goes that the beautiful princess Daphne has been kidnapped by an evil dragon named Singe and whisked off to a trap-laden medieval castle belonging to Mordroc, a powerful and malevolent wizard.

　　Players will have to make their way through the castle--which now consists of around 250 different rooms in 43 distinct areas--avoiding traps and battling enemies to find and rescue Daphne from the clutches from Mordroc. The game will feature around 40 different enemies this time around, including at least a dozen that are brand-new to the series. Fortunately, there will be plenty of power-ups available to aid players in their quest, although further details had not been made available to us at the time of writing.

　　To top it all off, this 3D update will include new intro and ending movies, around 60 original music scores, and full surround sound support. Dragon's Lair 3D is currently scheduled for release in October. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
