Dragon Quest Creator's Bad Day
Dragon Quest Creator's Bad Day-November 2024
Nov 12, 2024 11:23 PM

On Wednesday morning, Enix's Yuji Horii posted three messages on the message board of his personal web page in Japan. The first message stated that he was upset and frustrated that Enix's PR staff let the Japanese gaming publication, Weekly Jump, publish particular spoilers about Dragon Quest VII. And because of it, he stated that he would be discontinuing development of the game temporarily, hinting at a further delay on Dragon Quest VII for the Sony PlayStation.

A second message was posted a few hours later, which said pretty much the same thing, but added that the game will not be delayed. His third and last message of the day further expressed his frustration with Enix and described a disagreement he had with the company about not having some of his ideas expressed in the game. He also went on to say that he didn't blame Weekly Jump for publishing the spoilers. Rather, he blamed a miscommunication with Enix's PR staff, due to his time focused on the game development.

Finally, early this morning, Yuji Horii clarified his statements by posting an official statement on his web site apologizing for causing the confusion. He went on to say that he would be discussing his frustration with Enix's PR staff about publishing DQVII information in Japanese gaming magazines, including Weekly Jump. Dragon Quest VII for the Sony PlayStation is still on track for a release early next year.

The controversial message board of Yuji Horii's web site is currently not available.
