Sony Computer Entertainment America has today announced that it will release Downhill Domination this summer. The mountain-bike racing game, which is currently in development at SCEA's Santa Monica studio and Incog Entertainment, will be the first to be released for any current-generation game console.
"Due to its vertical racing style and competitive nature, the sport of downhill mountain bike racing has globally reached participants and spectators throughout the US, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, and numerous other countries," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "With the upcoming release of Downhill Domination, we are able to deliver the first extreme sport of this nature to PlayStation 2 fans while expanding the racing category to new heights."
Downhill Domination will allow players to choose one of 14 different riders and then race down vertical mountainsides and through urban environments as they attempt to gain corporate sponsorships and earn the right to compete in the Downhill Domination Championship. Five of the riders in the game will be real-life pros, and the game will also feature real bikes from licensed manufacturers that can be upgraded as players progress through the game.
The course designs in Downhill Domination will be open and expansive, and they'll all support mountain cross, technical downhill, and free ride disciplines. Up to four players will be able to compete simultaneously, and, in addition to being able to perform around 30 different tricks, they'll be able to take each other out with special combat moves. We'll bring you more information on Downhill Domination as soon as it becomes available.
