Double Fine outfits THQ with Costume Quest - Report
Double Fine outfits THQ with Costume Quest - Report-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 4:27 PM

Last month at Develop 2010 in Brighton, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer confirmed that Brutal Legend 2 is not going to happen, and he announced that his San Francisco studio is now working on four distinct games for both digital distribution and retail. The first game in that quartet will be Costume Quest, an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network title to be published by THQ this fall. Double Fine's next game now has a name.

According to 1UP, the downloadable action role-playing game is set on a spooky Halloween evening and casts players as a young boy searching for his lost sister. The title is reportedly the brainchild of Double Fine lead animator Tasha Harris and marks the studio's first departure from Schafer-directed boxed retail games. (Double Fine's first game, Pyschonauts, eventually became downloadable for the PC and Xbox 360.)

According to the report, the downloadable game will feature a variety of quests that range from simple fetch-and-return missions, to more complex assignments like teaming with up to four non-player characters to defeat various enemies. Further, the costumes the boy wears manifest literally, thus allowing the adolescent night-wanderer to become whatever he is wearing and use the garb's distinct attributes to his advantage.

As for the game's role-playing element, the boy collects candy wrappers to earn experience, he levels up, and he amasses Trick-or-Treat cards that unlock additional costumes as well as trophies and achievements.
