Disney wishes upon GameStar-April 2024
Apr 17, 2025 9:11 AM

Snow White has very nearly fleshed out her retinue of seven dwarves. Disney Interactive Studios said today that it would be acquiring its sixth internal studio, China-based GameStar. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Disney did not reveal what projects the studio will be creating for the publisher.

Founded in 2002, GameStar has offices in Shanghai and Wuhan and has for the last six years primarily served as an outsource developer for art and technology, according to the company's Web site. Last year, the developer said it would be transitioning away from the outsourcing business and into full game development, specifically on crossplatform titles for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo Wii, and DS.

GameStar is the most recent developer to be given the keys to Disney's magic kingdom of internal studios. Most recently, the House of Mouse said during last year's E3 Media and Business Summit that it would be bringing Deus Ex creator Warren Spector's Junction Point Studios into the fold. Since 2005, Disney has picked up Tak and the Power of Juju developer Avalanche Software, Turok studio Propaganda Games, and ATV Offroad Fury Pro outfit Climax Racing, as well as established Fall Line Studios, which is at work on Ultimate Band for the Wii and DS.
