Microsoft released DirectX 6.1, the latest version of its gaming and multimedia API. Featured in free downloadable release is DirectMusic, a long-developed API that allows developers to manage MIDI playback, customizable instruments, and interactive music composition.
It also adds improved code for the upcoming Pentium III's Katmai Instructions for 3D graphics processing. Gamer's should be able to see the fruit of 6.1's labors in the next few months.
