The Shin Megami Tensei games deliver deliciously dark tales of ruined worlds and demon invasion, and that trend is set to continue in Digital Devil Saga 2. This game is a direct sequel to the original Digital Devil Saga that Atlus released earlier this year, picking up right where that game left off.
Serph, leader of the Embryon tribe in the war-torn lands of the Junkyard, has managed to climb the Karma Tower, thus ascending to Nirvana. However, all that awaits him there are empty streets and nothingness, his companions and his own world left behind. He is finally approached by white-clad men, guards who threaten to arrest him for being an unlawful avatar tuner. It's then that the guards transform into demons, and Serph is able to call on his own atma to change as well. Nirvana is no different from the Junkyard, so Serph must find his own way in this strange new place, devouring those before him for survival.
The game will feature a new berserk mode that lets you transform into a half-human, half-demon hybrid, which is an addition to your normal human and powerful demon forms. Character customization will be facilitated by an all-new karma ring system, although we have no details on what this new system actually entails yet. You'll also be able to access bonuses by using your save data from the original Digital Devil Saga, though you won't need a save file from that game to play the sequel.
Fans of Shin Megami Tensei (ourselves included) will finally be able to complete the whole Digital Devil Saga story arc, and the new additions sound promising, considering the battle and customization options in the original game were already quite good. We'll be sure to bring you more news on Digital Devil Saga 2 as it emerges.
