Now Playing: Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition Reveal Trailer| PS5 Showcase
The biggest addition in DMC5: Special Edition is Vergil, who is joining the game as a playable character--the announcement trailer spent a lot of time showcasing his flashy sword skills. Those who already own the original DMC5 on PS4 or Xbox One will also have the option to purchase Vergil as paid DLC "at a later date."
You can check out the trailer, which also shows off the newly added ray tracing and improved effects, above.
Capcom shared some additional details about DMC5: Special Edition in a PlayStation Blog post. In addition to Vergil, the game will feature the fan-favorite Turbo mode, as well as the Legendary Dark Knight difficulty. The game is also receiving some visual and performance improvements thanks to the PS5's extra horsepower, including an optional 120 FPS mode.
DMC5: Special Edition is launching digitally this November for $40 USD. Capcom confirmed to GameSpot that the Special Edition is not planned for PC; however, PC players who own the base game will also have the option to purchase Vergil as DLC for $5 USD.
This announcement came alongside the news that the PS5 will release on November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, and on November 19 in other territories. The Digital edition will cost $400 USD, while the Standard edition will retail for $500 USD.
The original release of Devil May Cry 5 received a 9/10 in GameSpot's review. "DMC5 thrives on the stylistic and mechanical prowess of its predecessors," wrote reviewer Matt Espineli. "It sticks to tradition above all else, pursuing a few ambitious new ideas along the way, but mostly maintaining the series’ focus on intricate fighting systems and campy bravado."
There were plenty of other surprises and announcements during the showcase. We also got our first look at Final Fantasy XVI, Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay, and more. You can catch up on all the biggest news from the event in our PS5 event recap.
