For all of those players who think most real-time strategy games are too... sophisticated - perhaps "advanced in their game setting" would be the most appropriate phrase - comes Dawn of War from Virgin Interactive.
Dawn of War is set in a prehistoric world and lets players choose one of three tribes - Cro-Magnons, Neanderthals, or Saurians (a fantasy race of humanoid dinosaurs) - engaged in the age-old struggle to dominate the world. The tribes will struggle, not only against each other, but also against the forces of nature, hungry dinosaurs, and hostile terrain.
One feature that you don't see in many games of this type is the ability players have to selectively breed their tribesmen to create offspring with even more desirable characteristics - prehistoric eugenics in action! Virgin puts it this way: "The challenge to the player is simple - don't just endure, evolve."
Up to eight players can compete in multiplayer contests over TCP/IP-based local area networks or the Internet.
The game has an expected second-quarter release date.
