Dark Souls 3 Uses Sad Ben Affleck Video to Promote Its Release-November 2024
Nov 19, 2024 6:19 PM

Dark Souls III's western release is just days away, and to promote it, publisher Namco Bandai is leveraging the Sad Ben Affleck video that emerged in the wake of Batman v Superman's less-than-sterling reviews.

Ahead of the film's release, stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were asked in an interview what they made of the largely negative critical response. Cavill does most of the talking, leaving Affleck to sit there looking upset. This was quickly turned into a meme as the clip was edited to add the Simon and Garfunkel song "The Sound of Silence," a la the running joke from season four of Arrested Development.

The official Dark Souls Twitter account has now taken this further, editing that version to pretend as if the two actors are reacting to memories of playing past Dark Souls games. Footage of numerous deaths from the games is shown as Affleck sits there, looking sad.

Dark Souls III, which is already available in Japan, launches in North America and Europe on April 12. Namco Bandai has teased that big news about the game is coming tomorrow, April 8.
