Today, Mythic Entertainment announced it has begun work on Dark Age of Camelot: New Frontiers, a free expansion for its popular Dark Age of Camelot games. Following in the footsteps of Dark Age of Camelot: Foundations, New Frontiers is an optional update that will be made available for free on the official DAOC Web site.
Unlike Foundations, which merely let players build and design their own houses, New Frontiers is a more ambitious project. According to the mission statement on the DAOC Web site, the expansion has a tripartite goal: to add more tactics and diversity to realm-vs.-realm battles, make said skirmishes more accessible, and to give victors more concrete bonus and ability rewards.
Mythic is billing the creation of New Frontiers as a collaborative process with Dark Age of Camelot players. The hybrid developer/publisher said it will be soliciting "frequent communication of design philosophy, goals, specific features, and implementation" throughout the expansion's open beta test.
Dark Age of Camelot: New Frontiers will be available for download sometime in Q2 2004.
