Cyberpunk 2077 New Game+ Likely, Don’t Expect to Max Out Your Stats on First Playthrough
Cyberpunk 2077 New Game+ Likely, Don’t Expect to Max Out Your Stats on First Playthrough-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 8:46 AM

Cyberpunk 2077 promises to give players plenty of opportunity to make their characters their own, but what if you’re the really, really dedicated type? What if you want to become best at everything by maxing out every stat? Would that even be possible?

Redditor CaptainGJB asked Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pawel Sasko exactly that via Twitter DM, and he got back a fairly meaty response. While nothing is set in stone yet, Sasko says maxing out your character probably won’t be possible during your initial playthrough, as CD Projekt Red wants players to have to make meaningful choices…

Your question is about gameplay (character progression), [which] is something we are still working on. So, it may change in time, as we are looking for the best formula for the game. Most likely, it won't be possible to max out everything on one playthrough, as it would [make] little sense to have a game that is about replayability and choice, while [at] the same time [allowing] the players to max out all stats on the first run. I hope that answers your question.

Hmmm, wait, what’s that? Your first run? Does that imply players will be able to take multiple runs through the game? In other words, does the game have a New Game+ option? The Witcher 3 eventually added a New Game+ mode, but it wasn’t available at launch. While we don’t want to read too much into this one DM, it certainly sounds like CD Projekt Red are planning to include the option right from the get-go with Cyberpunk.

In other “Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be a lot like The Witcher 3” news, CD Projekt Red has also confirmed the game won’t have a traditional morality system. It’s up to you to decide whether the decisions you’ve made are right or wrong. And remember, the game will also have Witcher-3-style expansions. So yeah, not exactly a shock, but if you’ve enjoyed CD Projekt’s past work, Cyberpunk will be right up your alley.

Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on April 16, 2020.
