Cyberpunk 2077 Developer No Longer Recommends Asking PlayStation For Refunds
Cyberpunk 2077 Developer No Longer Recommends Asking PlayStation For Refunds-October 2024
Oct 17, 2024 10:15 PM

Just a few days ago, players upset with the quality of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One reported that they were being offered refunds. CD Projekt Red itself said that players should contact Microsoft or Sony in order to get the refund process started. However, it appears the company is now taking a different approach, as it is no longer recommending PlayStation players request a refund at all. You could be stuck waiting in limbo if you want to return your game. In fact, you might not be able to get your money back. [Update: Sony will officially offer refunds and has removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store.]

In an email sent out to those who requested refund assistance (obtained by Waypoint's Patrick Klepek), CD Projekt Red still recommends that Xbox players contact Microsoft directly. For PlayStation players, however, it told them to wait for "us to get back to you." No timetable was given for when this could be.

People are starting to get this response back from CD Projekt RED, after emailing their “help” address for refunds. The language is interesting: it doesn’t tell you to request a refund from Sony anymore. You’re supposed to wait. pic.twitter.com/Hb77SQ5teD

Sony's system appears to be more difficult to navigate than Microsoft's, as those who did obtain a refund often had to talk to Sony on the phone and state their case. Sony's refund policy typically only lets you get back the cash you spend as PlayStation Store credit if you haven't downloaded or started it yet, but it remains to be seen if that policy will be relaxed because of the widespread complaints about Cyberpunk 2077. As of now, there isn't any sort of agreement in place to make refunds easier.

In an investors call earlier this week, CD Projekt Red admitted it hadn't spent enough time preparing the last-gen console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 before launch. Bigger improvements for the game are scheduled for early next year, and we will likely see the full next-gen console versions launch in 2021, as well.

Cyberpunk 2077 has quite the dichotomy between its PC and console versions. Based on the PC version, we gave the game a 7/10 in our Cyberpunk 2077 review and praised its RPG mechanics and side missions. However, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are currently more than 30 points lower on our sister site Metacritic.
