Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Greatly Expanding For Their “Ambitious” & “Challenging” Title; Kraków Studio To More Than Triple Its Employees-November 2024
Nov 17, 2024 1:38 PM

For the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, Polish developer CD Projekt Red will be greatly expanding their teams in both Warsaw and Kraków.

If CD Projekt Red is to believed, their upcoming action-rpg, Cyberpunk 2077, will be far bigger than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and will be the studio’s most ambitious title so far.

The RPG from CD Projekt Red was officially announced back 2012, but wasn’t given a proper title until later that year. A teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2013 and has managed to create a serious hype for the RPG. If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out below:

As said, Cyberpunk 2077 will be CD Projekt Red’s most ambitious game to date, and to achieve this, the developer is greatly increasing the size of the team working on the game. In a recent Q/A with Gamepressure, the future of head of CD Projekt Red’s Kraków studio, John Mamais, talked about how the developer is hoping to realize its ambitions for Cyberpunk 2077.

“Well, we haven’t slowed down much in the last 5 years, perhaps except for a few long weekends, some raucous team parties, and a few personal holidays ;). It’s been The Witcher 2 straight to The Witcher 3 in parallel with Cyberpunk and then, after TW3 base game, straight onto 2 large expansions:Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. To realize our ambitions regarding Cyberpunk 2077 we need to scale the size of the team working on it which means from 300+ to 500+”, Mamais said.

CD Projekt Red currently consists of two studios – the Warsaw and a Kraków-based studio. The later will play a crucial part in CD Projekt Red’s expansion according to Mamais, and will hopefully grow to a studio with its own identity, which eventually will give rise to a new AAA title.

“Kraków will play a critical role in that expansion and the intention is to grow that studio from 30 now to 100+ in the next year (representing about 20% of the dev team on CP). Kraków is already planned to work on some key areas of Cyberpunk. But it’s part of the goal to build a studio with its own identity and to give the Kraków team ownership. Thereafter in Kraków it will be more and more growth and a new independent full AAA game conceived, pitched, and developed in Kraków”, said the future head of CD Projekt Red’s Kraków studio.

CD Projekt Red has achieved amazing success over the years, and their most recent title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has harvested numerous game-of-the-year awards. We can only hope that their Kraków-based studio will continue this success.
