German development firm Crytek Studios has released the first details on its latest projects, Engalus and X-Isle. The company plans to develop both games for multiple platforms, including the Sony PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube, and Microsoft Xbox.
According to the company, Engalus is a first-person action-adventure game with an easy and intuitive interface geared toward the mainstream gamer. Engalus' gameplay encompasses three modes: action, adventure, and story. The action elements involve straight first-person shooting action. In the adventure mode, players explore environments for items and clues and interact with NPCs. And finally, the story mode is set up between missions to progress the game's plot. The plot itself revolves around the main character, Jordain, who must stop a madman from destroying the universe as we know it, by using the ancient artifact known as Engalus.
X-Isle is also a first-person shooter for next-generation consoles. The game's story goes as follows: Several mysterious islands have appeared in the Pacific. As it turns out, the islands have existed for several millennia, cloaked from light and radar by advanced alien technology. Several US Marine units are sent to investigate and are promptly lost or killed by the dinosaur-like alien forms on the islands. The player is part of a special elite force sent to rescue the Marines and uncover the island's mysteries. There are five islands in the game and three to six missions per island. The game will feature a single-player game and team-based multiplayer modes.
Crytek Studios is in negotiations with several publishers regarding both games.
