Those looking forward to Crytek's upcoming multiplatform first-person shooter recently suffered some bad news: The game was pushed out of 2010 and into 2011. Today, publisher EA explained why it'll be worth it to wait for the game's new March 2011 release date.
EA today detailed the game's two special edition versions. First, a Crysis 2 Limited Edition will ship this March and will come packed with four in-game extras at no additional cost. The $60 version includes perks for the game's multiplayer component including bonus XP, a "SCAR Hologram Decoy" that allows players to project an image of themselves, a "SCAR Weapon Skin" in camouflage, and an in-game Platinum Dog Tag. But for gamers who want even more, EA also announced the $150 Crysis 2 Nano Edition. This pack includes everything found in the limited edition as well as a steel case, an 11-inch statue of the game's protagonist standing atop a New York City cab, and an art book. Additionally, everything found in the Nano Edition will come inside a nanosuit backpack (pictured).
The Nano Edition will not be sold in stores and according to EA will be a "very limited" bundle, available only through preorder. EA did not provide images of the Nano Edition, but Swedish retailer Webhallen did. The images have since been yanked, but the shots can now be viewed at German site Playfront.
EA also sent word today that Xbox 360 owners will gain access to a Crysis 2 closed multiplayer beta test later this year. Further, Crytek lifted the veil on the game's multiplayer component today, and those interested can check out the first details at the Crysis 2 Web site.
Crysis 2 is due out March 22 in North America and March 25 in Europe for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more on the shooter sequel, check out GameSpot's recent preview.
