Climax Brighton has announced the completion of its PlayStation 2 racing engine titled Climax Motorsports. The PS2 racing engine has the flexibility to create a wide variety of racing environments, including track based, point to point, and free roaming or city based with over 20 vehicles on screen at once, according to Climax. It can also generate atmospheric effects such as motion-blur, heat haze, and motion-captured spectators. Additionally, the company feels that the engine can achieve performance levels of 320,000 triangles a frame (or approximately 19 million triangles per second), and 12MB of textures per frame.
"Motorsports is an increasingly competitive area for publishers, and development time on PS2 is vitally important," said Tony Beckwith, managing director for Climax Brighton. "We've already seen a dip in the market this year as publishers and developers make the transition - the market needs product and it needs it quickly. Our technology offers publishers a springboard for product out in time for the all important Christmas 2001 season without comprising on quality."
Climax feels that its new racing engine can speed up the production of PS2 titles and potential developers can have a game completed by the Christmas 2001. Further information can be found on the company's web site.
