Chinese telecommunications firm Pacific Century Cyber Works is the latest company rumored to be in discussions with Interplay regarding a buyout. PCCW, which made a bid to acquire Activision earlier this year, is in the latter stages of negotiations with Interplay, according to the European trade publication MCV UK. An official announcement regarding the deal could be made in the next few weeks. Interplay officials could not be reached for comment at press time. PCCW has not released any official comment on the subject.
Interplay recently announced a 5 percent decrease in its overall net revenue for the quarter ended March 31, when compared with the same period last year. However, the company expects its future net revenue in the North American market to grow in 2001. Interplay stock is currently trading at $2.68 per share. Late last year, PCCW acquired Japanese publisher Jaleco for approximately $184 million.
