China Bans Soccer Manager 2005
China Bans Soccer Manager 2005-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 11:46 AM

Two soccer posts in one day? That's got to be some sort of record. But when James sent this my way, I knew I had to share it:

News channel MSNBC is reporting that China has banned the soccer management sim "Soccer Manager 2005" on the grounds that the game recognizes Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Tibet as independent nations. These four locales have all been the focus of sovereignty disputes with China, yet all appear as independent entities in the game. Any Web site offering downloads to the game could face fines up to 10,000 yuan ($1,210).

According to the story, "(Chinese officials) did not say who made the video game, also called "Champion Soccer Manager 2005", but said it had yet to be released nationally." Best guess is they're referring to Worldwide Soccer Manager 2005 which is being developed by the same team responsible for the granddaddy of all soccer management sims, Championship Manager.
