Ghostbusters was one of the biggest blockbusters of the 1980s, and after years of rumoured sequels and remakes, the property finally returns to cinemas next summer. The new reboot features an all-female ghostbusting team, and a new official image from the movie has now been released. Check it out here, as tweeted by Ghostbusters fansite Planet Ghostbusters:
Ghostbusters is directed Bridesmaids' Paul Feig, and stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Joining them is Chris Hemsworth, and there are cameos from original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Signourney Weaver.
In an interview with Empire, Feig spoke about his decision to reboot the film and start the story from scratch. "I have too much respect for the original one [to do a sequel]," he said, via Comicbook Movie. "There's also the feeling that once the world knows ghosts and has seen them busted on such a large scale, they run the risk of becoming pedestrian.
"There's something fun about introducing our world, which has never seen ghosts or the phenomenon of ghosts. I love origin stories and to introduce new characters."
Ghostbusters is due to be released on July 15, 2016.
