This weeks Chalk Talk we took on in game achievements, asking GameSpotters how they felt about what they added to the game, and their effect on gamers as a whole. Some users felt the lack luster achievements missed with the skill based ones caused conflict in their gaming experience, while others felt that they made fantastic bragging rights but could also be put in the game to simply troll the gamer, and some simply felt that the rewards should reflect the challenges appropriately.
zyxe: Every gamer will internally utilize this differently, while some will simply enjoy obtaining a large number of achievements, others are more concerned with the kinds of achievementsread more.
CamoBullo: Do these achievements really give someone any satisfaction whatsoever? Well, continuing on from the example in the previous paragraph, the achievement I unlocked was at the start of the game and truth be told, it was very easy to achieve, though that's what you can expect from an achievement at the start of the gameread more.
2ndWonder: The more achievements the more time a person is likely to spend playing a game to earn them. Some people think achievements are a waste of time. In my opinion they aren'tread more.
ZanarkandTidus: They can be used for bragging rights.You can show people you've beaten a game on the hardest level or have achieved every possible thing there is to achieve within the gameread more.
Gelugon_baat: Personally, I find most of them to be superfluous, but some stand out as being particular noteworthy as they highlight some tricky things about a game, and/or nuances in its gameplay read more.
