Capcom Sticks to Formula
Capcom Sticks to Formula-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 2:27 AM

TOKYO - Capcom had a good showing at this year's Spring Tokyo Game Show. The company presented a full lineup of standard Capcom fare, all very impressive.

You've probably already read about some of the games in other stories (on Capcom Generations and Pocket Fighter), but here's the lowdown on the other titles in Capcom's booth:

D & D CollectionOnly the first game of the collection, Tower of Doom, was playable and was only shown on the Saturn since the PlayStation version was cancelled. You take on the role of one of four adventurers, which include an elf, a warrior, a cleric, and a dwarf.

Although it has not yet been clearly stated whether the game will support full four-player simultaneous action, it is assumed that the game will allow only one or two players at a time.

The second adventure in the collection, Shadow over Mystara, will have full support for the 4MB RAM cart.

Vampire SaviorThe second game to be released that will take advantage of the 4 meg RAM cart is Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire. As was the case with X-men vs. Street Fighter, Savior is arcade-perfect with every frame of animation fully intact. There are no detectable load times and the colors appear as vibrant as the coin-op. Since I played this on the show floor, I can't comment on the sound effects, but judging by what the RAM cart has done for X-men/ SF, it's safe to say that it won't suck.

A nice bonus is that Savior includes the revisions and additional characters from Vampire Savior 2. The game is set for a mid-April release in Japan.

Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street FighterAnnounced, but not present on the show floor, was Capcom's next Vs. fighting game, which is scheduled for release after Vampire Savior is out. A specific release date has yet to be set, but this Saturn-only title (at the moment, though maybe they'll do an EX version of this as well) takes advantage of the 4MB RAM cart in much the same way that X-Men Vs. Street Fighter does.

Rockman & ForteCapcom had two new Rockman titles at the show, one of which was the Super Famicom game Rockman & Forte. Scheduled for release at the end of April, this 32MB cart is sure to give Rockman/Mega Man fans a taste of the old-style games.

Super Adventure RockmanBringing Rockman into the FMV generation, Capcom showed off Super Adventure Rockman, which plays out more like a full-length cartoon than a game. Spanning three CD-ROMs, this Saturn and PlayStation title has a lot to offer, but probably won't be showing up in the US.
