Brothers in Arms E3 2004 Demonstration
Brothers in Arms E3 2004 Demonstration-March 2024
Mar 19, 2025 8:34 PM

GameSpot is pleased to present the exclusive E3 demonstration for Brothers in Arms, the upcoming tactical shooter from Gearbox Software and Ubisoft. The game will be based on a true story--that of a squad of American soldiers who fought against nearly impossible odds in World War II. Gearbox went to great lengths to ensure the authenticity of the game, making numerous trips to Europe to scout out the lay of the land as well as enlisting the help of Colonel John Antel, an expert WWII historian and military adviser, who eventually joined the staff of Gearbox full time.

You may have heard this description before: An upcoming first-person shooter based on WWII that will attempt to be a highly realistic representation of the war. But Brothers in Arms will attempt to combine fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay with highly streamlined squad-based gameplay that will let you quickly give your teammates orders to move and fire. The game will feature a tactical map that will help you plan out your next moves relative to the enemy positions, but the actual gameplay will be from a first-person perspective: laying down fire, giving orders, and clearing out enemy positions.

This lengthy 14-minute demonstration from E3 is narrated by Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford and Colonel Antel, and it goes through how the game will work in practice, how the game will model its characters (who are based on real-life soldiers), how you'll aim and fire on suppressed enemies, and how you'll give orders to the rest of the soldiers in your squad. Brothers in Arms is scheduled for release on the Xbox and the PC later this year.
