Beyond Good & Evil E3 2003 Preshow Report-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 8:52 AM

Ubi Soft will have Beyond Good & Evil (the game formerly known as "Project BG&E") on display at this year's E3 in Los Angeles. The game was designed by Michel Ancel, the creator of the Rayman series. The game will be powered by the JADE engine, a new set of graphics code that will help render the game's expansive environments.

In this third-person action adventure game, you'll play as Jade, an investigative reporter who must uncover a conspiracy that threatens her homeland, a huge island called Hyllis. Beyond Good & Evil will require you to explore the world of Hyllis using a hovercraft that can also turn into a plane to cover a great deal of ground. Over the course of your journeys, you'll encounter several dangerous monsters that you'll need to fight off. On foot, you'll be armed with a staff that you can use to perform various melee attacks, though you'll also acquire various magical powers that can blast numerous enemies at once.

You'll also be able to recruit the help of sidekick characters who will be able to explore areas that Jade can't. These sidekicks will be important in solving the game's many puzzles, some of which will require you to creatively use one or more sidekicks' abilities. You'll be able to increase the number of sidekicks you can bring with you by purchasing them. You'll earn money in Beyond Good & Evil by doing what Jade does best: taking pictures. Jade will be able to use her camera to photograph the wildlife of Hyllis and sell them for funds to purchase upgrades. As you might expect, she'll get much more money for photos of rare creatures (which she'll discover in out-of-the-way places, and in some cases, only in the dark) than she will for photos of common ones. Beyond Good & Evil will be released for the PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in time for this year's holiday season.
