Bethesda E3 2019: Evil Within Dev Announces Ghostwire Tokyo
Bethesda E3 2019: Evil Within Dev Announces Ghostwire Tokyo-December 2024
Dec 14, 2024 8:30 AM

During Bethesda's E3 2019 press conference, Tango Gameworks director Shinji Mikami announced a brand new title called Ghostwire Tokyo. The action-adventure game is set in the titular city (Tokyo, not Ghostwire) and has you fighting against a supernatural evil. The E3 2019 trailer is embedded above.

In the trailer, whole crowds of Tokyo citizens suddenly vanish into thin air, their discarded clothes the only clue that they were ever there at all. While most of the remaining people in the city (rightfully) freak out, one lone hooded figure calmly surveys the city. Armed with a bow and arrows, the archer is clearly hunting for something. Turns out that something is a bunch of supernatural creatures, most of which look like modernized interpretations of Japanese yokai.

Now Playing: Ghost Wire Tokyo Reveal Trailer | Bethesda Press Conference E3 2019

Ghostwire Tokyo creative director Ikumi Nakamura--the breakout star of Bethesda's showcase and perhaps E3, given her enthusiasm--took the stage to talk about the game. She described Ghostwire Tokyo as "spooky," but not survival horror like Tango Gameworks' recent games, The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2. You seemingly take on the role of the archer seen in the trailer, exploring the city and facing a variety of challenges. You're tasked with learning why people are disappearing in order to figure out a way to stop the phenomenon.

E3 2019 Conference Schedule

Monday, June 10, 10 AM PT -- PC Gaming ShowMonday, June 10, 12 PM PT -- Limited Run Games Press ConferenceMonday, June 10, 1 PM PT -- Ubisoft Press ConferenceMonday, June 10, 4:30 PM PT -- Kinda Funny ShowcaseMonday, June 10, 6 PM PT -- Square Enix Press ConferenceTuesday, June 11, 9 AM PT -- Nintendo Direct ShowcaseOn your journey, you'll meet many spirits. Nakamura warns that some may be peaceful, but plenty of others are quite dangerous. It will also be up to you to deduce whether the mass disappearances are actually completely the result of paranormal forces. A very normal, very human element might be at play as well.

Ghostwire Tokyo did not get a release date. Tango Gameworks did not announce planned systems either.
