In addition to announcing a new Battlefield mobile game, developer DICE has teased the next Battlefield game, which will be announced "soon." DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson said in a blog post that the new Battlefield game is being developed by the "biggest Battlefield development team ever."
The game, whatever it turns out to be, will be released across console and PC this holiday. Gabrielson went on to tease that this game will offer a "return to all-out warfare." In addition to DICE's main team in Sweden, the company's office in Los Angeles is contributing to the game, alongside Criterion. Additionally, EA's team in Gothenburg is working on the technology components of the new game.

Now Playing: COD WW2 Could Give Battlefield 6 The Edge
"Working with more world-class development studios within Electronic Arts, we have our biggest team ever on a Battlefield game for console and PC," Gabrielson said. "Our friends at Criterion and DICE LA are working with us on our shared vision for the game, while the team in Gothenburg is taking technology in the game to the next level. Together, we are creating a jaw-dropping experience for you to enjoy later in 2021."
This new Battlefield game is currently in the playtesting phase. This includes not only testing on a daily basis, but also polishing and balancing efforts that aim to help make the game the "best possible Battlefield game" possible.
"I can tell you it is a bold step. It has everything we love about Battlefield--and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments," Gabrielson said. "Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before. All brought to life with the power of next-gen consoles and PCs."
The last line of the statement is intriguing given the recent reports that suggest Battlefield 6 won't be available for PS4 and Xbox One. The new Battlefield game was announced in October 2019, at which time publisher Electronic Arts said the game would launch in the company's fiscal year 2022, which runs from April 2021 to March 2022. EA said it is releasing this new Battlefield game in 2021 instead of 2020, when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were released, to take advantage of their larger install base. "Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22."
Whether or not Battlefield 6--or whatever the game is called--is released on PS4 and Xbox One remains to be seen. We've contacted EA in an attempt to clear up the situation.
As for the new Battlefield mobile game, this title is coming from EA's Industrial Toys studio, which was founded by Alex Seropian of Halo fame. The game has been in the prototyping phase for "years" and it's finally now ready to release on smartphones and tablets in 2022.
