Batman v Superman Was Too Long, I Fell Asleep -- Former Superman Actor-October 2024

Superman actor Dean Cain, who played the Man of Steel in TV show The New Adventures of Superman, has shared his thoughts on Batman v Superman. He tells The Hollywood Reporter (be warned that this link contains spoilers, though the quotes below do not) that he thought the movie was very well made, but said it was too long. In fact, he fell asleep during it.

"The movie obviously was so well made; the effects were incredible. It was too long, though," he said. "And I admit, I dozed off a tiny bit, but maybe that's because I was tired after a lot of traveling."

Batman v Superman's runtime is 151 minutes, while the upcoming R-rated Ultimate Edition will be thirty minutes longer, coming in at around three hours.

Cain praised the performances by Ben Affleck (Batman) and Henry Cavill (Superman), and also remarked how the representation of Superman felt "dark" compared to his character and the one played by Christopher Reeve. "That's the only difference to me. [This movie] inhabits a dark world and Superman is such an alien in that world," he said.

He went on to say that Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot in Batman v Superman, is "really easy on the eyes." Cain was also pleased by how the movie introduces some of the other Justice League characters "because those stories are very cool."

Batman v Superman made $170.1 million Thursday-Sunday domestically last week, representing a new all-time record for Warner Bros, passing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($169.1 million). It also eclipsed The Hunger Games ($152.5 million) for the best March opening of all time and soared above Furious 7 ($147.2 million) for the best Easter weekend opening in history. Additionally, it exceeded The Dark Knight Rises ($160.9 million) to become the best debut for a DC Comics movie.

The movie went on to make $500 million in its first five days.

Reviews weren't exactly kind; the movie has a 44 rating on GameSpot sister site Metacritic, while it stands at a 29% freshness score on Rotten Tomatoes. In wake of this middling reception, the movie's stars and director have spoken up to address the critical reviews.
