Last year on GameSpot AU, we started a semi-regular piece checking out how the then Office of Film and Literature Classification was rating games down under (which we then subsequently rolled into every edition of Crosshairs). This year, we're taking our classification round-up back into Spot On!, with a weekly story dedicated to showing you how the Australian Classification Board has been keeping itself busy. And why are we doing this? Simply because until we get an R18+ rating for games, the system in Australia--frankly--sucks.
Say hello to my little friend in Godfather 2 (PS3, 360, PC). Oh wait, wrong movie reference.
And there's some good news for our first round-up of 2009, with confirmation last week that previously banned game Silent Hill: Homecoming (PS3, 360, PC) getting reclassified as an MA 15+ title. And the positives don't stop there. Over the holiday break, the Classification Board passed a few top-shelf titles, including Resident Evil 5 (PS3, 360) and The Godfather 2 (PS3, 360, PC) both getting the MA 15+ stamp. Also getting Australia's highest rating available for a game was the blade slicing Afro Samurai (PS3, 360) and the Tokyo-themed Ninja Blade (360).
Below are a selection of key Classification Board ratings this week:
