Aussie catch-up commercial TV coming to PS3
Aussie catch-up commercial TV coming to PS3-January 2024
Jan 8, 2025 8:45 AM

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCEA) announced today it will be partnering with Australian media portal Yahoo!7 to deliver the PLUS7 catch-up TV service on PlayStation 3 consoles.

The first commercial catch-up TV agreement for SCEA, the new service will allow PS3 users to access an optimised Internet video streaming service via their console to watch full-length television episodes from channels Seven, 7TWO, and other content partners.

Finally. Home & Away on the PS3. It's what you've always wanted.

The content will be available to stream from anywhere between seven to 28 days depending on the program, and it will be updated regularly. Users can check the full list of TV shows available on any one day by searching for names alphabetically and will be able to pause, fast forward, and rewind programs.

The service will also be customised specifically for the PS3 console--once the service begins, a Yahoo!7 icon will show under the TV icon on the console's XMB interface. Because the content will be streamed via the Internet, download limits and capacity will depend on each individual user's data plan. According to Yahoo!7, a 22-minute show will consume roughly between 45 and 160 megabytes, while a 42-minute show will consume between 90 and 370 megabytes. Advertisements under 30 seconds in length will run at intervals of 15 minutes.

SCEA's first Australian catch-up TV service launched with ABC iView in November 2009. In the same month, the publisher also launched the PlayTV service for the PS3, allowing users to watch, pause, and record free-to-air high-definition TV.
