Today in Taiwan, ATI unveiled the Mobility Radeon 9700, its new graphics processor. Previously known as the M11, the GPU was designed specifically for use with notebooks, and will sport ATI's Powerplay power optimization feature and will fully support DirectX 9.0.
The Mobility Radeon 9700 is manufactured using the what is known as the low-k dielectric technique. The low-k process provides better chip shielding, which, in turn, provides for improved performance and lower power consumption. More information on the low-k process can be found on the IBM Web site, while the Radeon 9700's full specs are available from ATI.
The Mobility Radeon 9700 launch comes just days after a Mercury Research report showed ATI and its archrival, NVidia, possess almost equal shares of the graphics hardware market. The report had ATI now owning 24.9 percent of the market, thanks in large part to the Radeon line's success, while NVidia held onto 24.7 percent.
