ATI Technologies announces an AGP graphics solution for the entry-level and low-cost (sub-US$1,000) computers.
The new Charger 3D, due March 30, will be available with a 2MB or 4MB EDO configurations and offers 2D/3D, MPEG-2 playback, and video acceleration through the Rage IIC chip. The Rage IIC AGP has all of the features as the Rage II+ chipset but with optimizations for better performance with 2D and 3D.
Support for the board will include drivers for Windows 95/98, Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, DirectX, and OpenGL.
On the geek side, the Rage IIC uses a 200MHz DAC with a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 and a max 100 Hz SVGA refresh rate. 3D features for the chip include a standard listing of perspectively-correct texturing, MIP-mapping, bilinear and trilinear filtering, z-buffering, video texturing, Gouraud shading, and Alpha blending.
ATI released no information about the price of the Charger 3D.
