ATI Announces S1-370 TL
ATI Announces S1-370 TL-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 11:31 AM

This morning, ATI announced the S1-370 TL from the show floor of CeBit in Germany. The low-cost chip is meant for integration onto motherboards and is the first North Bridge graphics chipset to support transform and lighting, a rendering technology that, until now, has been reserved for the likes of the Nvidia GeForce 256 and S3 Savage2000. ATI claims that its S1-370 TL chip is twice as fast as the Intel i810e graphics chipset in 3D applications and games like Quake III Arena. The chip's list of features also includes support for 32-bit color depth and hardware motion-compensation for DVD playback.

"...I am really excited about introducing ATI's S1-370 TL chipset,'' said newly appointed ATI president and COO Dave Orton. "This is the strongest product in the integrated market, and with ATI's sales and distribution strength behind it, we expect to capture a significant share of the value PC market.''

Currently, 100MHz versions of the S1-370 TL are available for motherboard manufacturers to integrate onto their mainboards. ATI says that 133MHz samples will be available sometime in Q2 2000, with a full production ramp up occurring in Q3 of this year. S1-370 TL chips will cost hardware manufacturers US$36 per 10,000 units.
