Assassin's Creed Syndicate has been released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with its PC release to follow on November 19. Gathering quite good reviews that seem to acknowledge the latest iteration as a return to form for the long running franchise, as well as an improvement over last year's Assassin's Creed Unity both in story as well as gameplay. Most of the issues that plagued the latter are now gone, with Syndicate offering a smoother and more refined experience.  DigitalFoundry has put the two new console versions to the test, discovering great improvement over Unity, with the PlayStation 4 version edging slightly.

　　Assassin's Creed Syndicate shows genuine improvement here. In Unity, we could see extended periods of gameplay where the 30fps target was nowhere in sight. Its successor shows huge improvement on both platforms, but it's clear that the PlayStation 4 takes pole position. We have two videos below outlining the performance differential, concentrating on engine cut-scenes and gameplay. In the former, GPU load is significantly higher than it is during gameplay, and Xbox One's less capable graphics hardware has more of an issue coping with the load, with sustained drops in performance in some areas, dipping beneath the 30fps threshold while PS4 holds firm. In areas where the Sony console does drop frames, Xbox One lags still further behind.

　　Assassin's Creed Syndicate features an immense open world, with a Victorian London brimming with life, and the evolving architecture of the Industrial Revolution providing the perfect playground for the advancing parkour system of the franchise.
