Assassin's Creed Movie: See Michael Fassbender Fight On A Rooftop In This Blu-ray/DVD Clip-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 4:26 AM

The video game movie Assassin's Creed comes to home video in March, featuring 90 minutes of bonus footage. This includes mini-documentaries that explain how the filmmakers adapted the game for the big screen. GameSpot can reveal a clip from one of the bonus features today, containing a behind-the-scenes look at the efforts that went into some of the on-location shoots.

Nick Oliver, a location manager for Assassin's Creed, starts off by talking about filming in Valletta, Malta. Before setting up trestles on the old buildings, including some of the oldest in all of Europe, the filmmakers needed to acquire structural reports to make sure they did not damage them. This is because Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Now Playing: Assassin's Creed - Take The Pledge: In the Realm of Realism - Running Along the Roofs

As you can see in the video, rigs for cameras and stunts were attached to buildings and belltowers, while fight scenes were performed on rooftops throughout the city.

Michael Fassbender, the star of Assassin's Creed, said it was important for him that they film as much of the movie as possible without CGI. "In an era where there's a lot of CGI in these kind of films, we wanted to have as much old-school, real location shoots as possible," he said.

Director Justin Kurzel agreed, saying he tried to film as much as he could in-camera, relying on CGI to add further effects to make it look like 15th Century Spain.

Assassin's Creed, which came out at the end of December, made more than $211.6 million at the worldwide box office. It performed much better internationally, taking in $157 million from foreign markets, compared to $54 million in the United States, according to Box Office Mojo.

The movie will be available on digital stores on March 10, with the Blu-ray/DVD version launching on March 21. Additionally, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray also launches on March 21.

Ubisoft will reveal a deleted scene during PAX East next month.

A sequel is reportedly in the works, with Fassbender supposedly coming back. For more on Assassin's Creed, check out GameSpot's review of the movie.
