Apple Announces September Event, But iPhone 12 May Not Be There-November 2024
Nov 17, 2024 4:29 AM

A special Apple Event Twitter hashtag was discovered on September 8 and sparked speculation on when the next Apple Event would happen. Apple has confirmed that a special event will take place on September 15 at 10 AM PDT.

Aside from the succinct "Join us from Apple Park" under the public invite images, no other real details have been attached to the announcement. In press invites, the event is titled "Time Flies." Like WWDC20 (Apple's developers conference), this event will likely be entirely livestreamed.

The September Apple Event is rumored to include more details about the iPhone 12 and the Apple Watch 6 series. Digitimes reported in 2019 that Apple told its suppliers to expect a new generation iPhone to launch in 2020. And since we haven't seen any news of the 5G iPhone 12 this year yet, the September event could contain information about it. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the September Apple Event will not include the iPhone 12, and instead will focus on "the iPad and Apple Watch in all likelihood."

Apple also has said that new iPhone 12 will be delayed due to production issues related to the global pandemic. It's possible that Apple will hold another event later this year specifically to unveil the newest iPhones.

The name of the event, "Time Flies," also suggests that the Apple Event will focus on the new Apple Watch 6. 9to5Mac reported on the dearth of Apple Watch 5 stocks, which could herald the impending release of Apple Watch 6. 9to5Mac also noted they expect Apple Watch 6 to have a similar design to Apple Watch 5 but with new features like blood oxygen level detection.

When viewed on the iPhone, the invite includes an AR component. The Apple logo unravels to form the date 9.15. Cnet speculates there could be an AR aspect to the event on September 15.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is also working on an affordable version of an Apple Watch, a redesigned iPad Air with "edge-to-edge screen," a smaller HomePod, and over ear headphones. It's unknown if any of these will be revealed at the September Apple Event, but there is a possibility.

Aside from impending product launches and updates, Apple is also still engaged with Epic in an ongoing lawsuit. You can read GameSpot's full primer and explanation regarding Apple and Epic's conflict.
